Tablecloth

I have a tablecloth with a design I cannot find. I know nothing about needlepoint. It appears she made this from one piece of linen, but also that canvas might be incorporated into it.

Can you give me any insight into this technique? Or if you have sen this before. This piece was made around 1925. She was a seamstress from Europe, Austria/Hungary empire.

Thanks.

Could it be withdrawn thread work
by: Carol

Hi Patrick,

Without seeing it up close, I am wondering if it is actually canvas, or whether she has withdrawn some fabric threads and then wrapped those remaining in a grid format.

This is called Drawn Fabric embroidery and was popular back in the 1920s.

Maybe someone from the same part of the world as your Grandmother can help with this?

Regards,

Carol
