I owe you an apology, and a gift.

It has been far too long since I last wrote, back at the end of 2024, and I have missed our chats about thread and fabric and what we are all stitching. Life rather ran away with me. But I am back, and with good reason.

You might also notice the site looks a little different lately. I am part way through giving it a new coat of paint, page by page, so do have a wander while you are there.

Twenty years, and a book reborn

Here is the big news: this little site of mine turns twenty this year.

Twenty years! To mark it, I have completely rebuilt my book, Stitch Your Own Business, the story of how I turned a love of cross stitch into a real, paying business, from your first design through to kits, shows, talks, teaching and your own website.

This Revised 2026 Edition is brought right up to date for the way we sell now.

It is especially close to my heart. So much of its warmth came from my dear friend and fellow designer Shan Harris, whose voice runs all through the book.

Sadly Shan passed away before I finished the revision, so I have kept her words exactly as she gave them and dedicated this edition to her memory.
