outline details for cross stitch

by Janet
(Chicago)

I am stitching a counted cross stitch on plastic canvas. When completing outline details, do I do in and out of every hole or do I extend outline in longer stitches in straight areas? (doing Christmas jar ornament design)If I do go more than one, is there a maximum number of stiches I should outline with one stitch?

Stick to two fabric threads at the most
by: Carol

I like to keep the length of my backstitches around a cross stitch design as short as possible, Janet.

Therefore, I would not take the thread across more than 2 fabric threads in any direction at a time.
