Needlepoint advice

My grandfather loved to needlepoint, and he was about 90% done with a canvas before he passed away.

I am an advanced cross stitcher so I was wanting to finish the project. However, I've found that there's no pattern, just the canvas legend. I have all the yarn, and I'm just looking for some advice or tips so I don't ruin it. If you could offer help, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I know that this presents a challenge

Hi!

That's lovely that your Grandad did this. :-)

I inherited my Mum's WIPs, and among them was a needlepoint of the London skyline. It's tricky as it is in tonal blues, with a pop of yellow (it's a nighttime view).

I found the best way was to work in natural light, and try to match sections at a time.

I also had the challenge that some of the yarn had perished, so finding suitable alternatives was a little challenging.

If the canvas is new(er) try googling the name, you may be able to find out the legend/color key; or find someone that has completed it that might have the information you need.

Hope it goes well.

Jenny.
