Yellow stain from cardboard on a piece of needlework- HELP!

My mom made a piece of needlework when she was pregnant with me - it was framed with cardboard backing it.

Through the years it has developed a yellowish-brown tinge to it from the cardboard backing. Does anyone know how to remove this without damaging the needlework? It was done on a linen fabric!

Please help!

I have the exact problem only it's needlepoint that Grandma did for my son.

Did you get the stain out? If so, how? If not, what should I avoid?
