working with shantung silk

by Lisa
(Pennsylvania)

I am making a ecclesiastical stole for my minister and have chosen a shantung silk fabric.

I am going to be embroidering a symbol from our fellowship, a flaming chalice, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions in the handling of the fabric.

I am using a sew in interfacing between the front and back, but was wondering should I use a fusible webbing like stitch witchery on the underside of the embroidery to keep it secure.
