The instructions specify thread Perle 8 and then Perle 5 - which is thicker?

I can only find Perle 8 and Perle 12 in the Domino thread that's available here - the shopkeepers both say they are the only sizes - is there an alternative?

Perle Cotton comes in sizes 3,5,8 & 12. The smaller the number, the bigger the thread. Try the DMC website.
