what size needlepoint canvas do I need

Many years ago I made a needlepoint intermediate sampler using 14 different stitches. I want to make another one and I don't know what number canvas to use, the title page of the instructions just says 156 x 156 threads.

Can someone help me out?

Do you have a finished size given?

Susan, Does the pattern you want to work give an overall finished design size? If so you can divide the number of stitches by different numbers to get the closest to that finished size.

The most common needlepoint canvas sizes are 10 and 12 threads to the inch.
