Water Stain on embroidery

I have a completed cross stitch that my mother did and it looks like a water stain is on it. The fabric around the stitching is browish yellow. Any thoughts?

I can't promise it will work, but repeated washings with Ivory Snow detergent removed a cat pee stain and smell from one of my embroideries.
