Using a smaller fabric count than whats called for

The pattern instructs to stitch on 16 count Aida or 32 count linen.
Can I stitch it on 18 count Aida or 30 count linen without distorting the image?

crossing over one or two threads
by: Kay

Thanks for the info Valerie. I found a 30 count Zweigart Murano in an old stash of my mothers. I know that that particular fabric count is now discontinued, but am I'm leaning toward doing it on that particular linen. Now, for my next question....hope you see this :)......I'm wondering if I would get the same results crossing over one thread instead of two???? I know it would come out a lot smaller, which would be fine, but I just noticed that there are a couple of half stitches, soooo, going over one thread would not be an option.....I'm guessing.

The design will not distort as long as you are working fabric intended for counted stitching. If you use a higher count, the design will be smaller. If you use a lower count, it will be larger. To find out what size it will be, divide the pattern count by the fabric count. It will give the size it come out.
