Stretching Needlework in progress

by Julie Bilecky
(Lawrenceville, GA )

My mother-in-law is working on a rather large needlepoint piece and the original shape of the backing is very mishapen now. How do I strech it for her to enable her to continue to work on it?
Thanks - Julie

You need to mount it on stretcher bars. Needlepoint is not supposed to be worked without them because otherwise you cannot avoid warping. Scroll bars may be used if kept taught, but if your piece is already warping out of shape use stretcher bars.
