Stole on Pearl

by Julie
(Manchester,UK)

Could I use the same technique on a cross stitch I am doing I wonder? I'm stitching Lavender and Lace 'The Wedding' and I was looking at the photograph the other night, thinking that I don't like the veil, but having said that, I don't want to leave it out either.

I've never done blackwork before, but if anybody thinks I could translate that technique onto 'The Wedding' I'll buy the chart like a flash. I might even stitch it! But not until The Wedding is finished. It's for a friend and I have my nose up against a timeframe!

Looking forward to hearing from anybody who would be kind enough to respond to this email. I just love embroidery, you learn something new every day!

Many thanks

Pearls stole on cross stitch
by: Liz

Surely if you put the stole onto the cross stitch, but make whatever colour is underneath it, a lighter colour, it will give it the same impression as it does on Pearl, that it is a gosamer type veil

Changing Chart
by: Valerie Kalyani

After going and looking at the chart, I do not think I would change it. It looks like one of those filmy transparent veil (like I had!) and I think attempting to convert it to blackwork would give it a rather heavy appearance. If you do decide to change it, I would suggest a very light pattern or the veil will lose its 'floaty' look.
