Stiff aida

How do i make aida stiff? I prefer not to use hoops and like the stiffness in the aida to help see my work better. I like 18 count aida but recently I cant find aida with any sort of stiffness that suites my cross stitch needs. Is there a particualr technique involved or do i need to buy a particular brand or type of aida?
