soiled floss/skeins

I have two soiled spots on a skein of DMC embroidery floss. What is the best way to clean the whole skein?

I would soak them (separately) in cool water with a drop of dish detergent. Swish around a bit and rinse very well. Do not rub them, or the floss will fray.
