Removing pencil marks from fabric

by Lindsey
(Oklahoma)

I have several completed pieces in my collection that I haven't been able to get framed yet (being a poor college student and all >.<) and somehow they've collected some pencil marks. Or, at least I think it's pencil.

I've been looking online but I can't seem to find any references to removing pencil! One of the affected pieces is a large bright red airplane so I'm afraid to wash it in case the red bleeds. What do you think I should do?

RE:Pencil Marks
by: Peg

If you think the marks are pencil I would try an art gun eraser. Not just a regular eraser. It's square and is very crumbly. I'm sure you could probably get one at your college book store. If that doesn't work try an old toothbrush an some non-acetate fingernail polish remover. I just removed a ballpoint ink grid that was bleeding through from the back of cross stitch piece. Hopefully the marks are not real close to the red portion. After using the remover you must rinse it out well. I would hold only the section needing to be rinse under the water. Hope this helps.
