Olive oil on my needlepoint

A bottle of olive oil broke and saturated about half of a needlepoint project that I was working on and have not finished. I washed it in Woollite and cool water. The discoloration seems gone from the yarn but now, as I work on it, my hands become oily.

I don't know if the discoloration will emerge again.

It is also more difficult to work on needlepoint canvas that has been washed and lost its stiffness and I worry that it will not hold its shape ultimately.

I would be grateful for any suggestions and advice. I've invested countless hours already on this project.

Oil on cloth
by: Kathy G

I find that good old Lestoil works the best for removing any oily stain. I use a cloth with diluted lestoil and blot if it's a small area or I dip in the solution if a larger area. Good luck.
