Old Water Stain had darkened over time by: Valerie Kalyani
This does sound intimidating! You will have to be careful not use things that set color like vinegar. For a water stain vinegar would have been my first choice because it can dissolve minerals which may be part of the stain. But I don't think I would risk it here. Oxyclean or the needlework product Restore is what I would use. Do not leave it in the Restore as long as it says and check it constantly for bleeding. There may be soil components in the stain if any of the water that got on it ran through the dirt in the pot. Then you could have tannin in the cloth and like tea dying, that will not come out. If it just will not come out at all, you might consider tea dying the whole piece and giving it an aged look.
