how many embroidered squares for my tablecloth

by Betty
(Cusseta, Ga.)

I am making an embroidered cloth for daughter's table. I would like the over-hang to at least be 2 squares. The table is 40in x 5ft and the squares are 4 inches - how many squares will it take?

Please help me as my math SUCKS. I come up with a different amount each time.

Carol answers...

Your table top itself would require 10 x 15, 4 inch squares, Betty.

You don't say whether you want 2 squares hanging over the edge on all four sides, or 1 (making a total of 2).

If you want an overhang of 2 on each side then your total size will be 14 x 19 squares.

If you want one each side (making a total of 2) then you are looking at 12 x 17 squares.

I hope this helps.

Carol

Tablecloth

I differ from Carol slightly, I would allow 3 squares overhang on all sides i.e. 12 inches. therefore thecloth should measure 64X84inches in all which i calculate to be 16X21square = 336 in total
good luck
Lucille
