Highlighter stain removal

During a flight, my bright pink highlighter lid has come off and the pen has sat nicely on my cross stitch for days before I realised! The stain is fluoro pink and is about the size of my palm. Given the work put in so far, I am devastated.

Can anybody please recommend a way to remove this sort of stain, or even minimise it?
