Half stitches

I have get confused with half stitches. I have 28 count linen
cross stitch up two over two.

With half stitches how do I now which way they should go left bottom corner to top right or bottom right to top left?

I guess I need to know is this indicated on pattern in some way?

Unless the designer has specifically mentioned the direction the half stitches should be worked in, then it is normal to make sure that your half stitch is worked in the same way to the first half of the crosses used elsewhere in the design, Heather.
