Blocking Cross Stitch

I find that when I cross-stitch a piece that has a border or other regular geometric shape, my sides don't come out straight. How do I block a piece to square the sides?

Mat and framing my cross-stitch

I have several projects that I'd like to put into frames. I purchased some stainless steel dressmaker pins and foam core board (acid-free). Now I need to know how to complete the projects and I know that you had it on your website but I can't find it.
