fabric marker stains

I used a fabric marker on a piece of cotton blend fabric. After I completed the piece the marker did not come out after I washed and dried it. Any ideas how to get this red marker out? I've heard it is hard to remove, I will not use it again. Thanks for any help

You may be stuck with this stain, I'm afraid. Always use washable markers intended for cloth. Red is the hardest color to get out, worse in my opinion than black.

Try dish detergent with grease-lifting capability, this may help break down the ink. I would not wash the embroidery first; get another bit of cloth and mark it with the same pen and let it dry. Then do a trial washing to see what happens. Maybe even make a few so you can test other products. I would have a couple of bowls of clear cool water to rinse in if you need to do so quickly. The ink may not fully release and could bleed into the the stitching, rapid rinsing in water that has no trace of the ink can slow or even stop that from happening.

If you are not successful in getting the stain out, you may have to consider stitching over it with threads that match your cloth.
