double running stitch direction

Question: When doing a running stitch for blackwork, how does one determine which direction to follow. Leaves off stems, items that are separated, etc.

Also I saw the black knight and would love to get the chart. Please tell me how.

Answer:

It is always worth taking the time to plan a "route" when tackling a blackwork fill pattern. You may wish to take a photocopy of part of the pattern and then draw over each alternate "stitch" with a colored pencil or highlighter, to help work out how to include all the side routes off the main stem, so that all leaves, etc. are stitched as you progress.

You may also find my blackwork ebook useful, as it includes patterns that provide these "routes" for you.

The Black Knight is available as a downloadable chart, straight to your computer. You can find it here...

Enjoy your blackwork.
