Don't Understand Directions

by Stacie
(USA)

I don't understand the directions for the fill pattern 'Arrows and Diamonds'. How is it that one is suppose to create the 'horizontal' pathways without breaking the thread and starting with a new one (that is if one wants to keep the image identical front and back)?

Answer:

Stacie I see that you are referring to the blackwork fill pattern that I have illustrated on the following page...Blackwork fill pattern.

Once you have completed steps 1 and 2, which create the vertical rows, then yes, you would need to start a new thread (or work the current one through the already stitched outline of the area you are filling).

Step 3 is where you create a horizontal row of stitches, just as if you were doing the first half of a cross stitch in every alternate square of the Aida fabric.

On the return journey you are filling in the gaps, instead of crossing the first lot of stitches as you would in cross stitch.

The pattern will look similar on the back, but you will have stitches on top of stitches so it may appear a little darker or thicker.

I hope this helps?

Carol
