Hmm...I don't think it would be easy for a computer program to convert. You could try converting it to cross stitch and then replacing each chunk of color with a different fill pattern. Or, maybe trace the outline of any major shapes in the photo (people, cake, bouquet, etc) and then pick a fill for each area?

Thanks for the advise Valerie am still looking at best way to do this project, not sure about facial details & getting the likeness right.

Alison, I would put the photo into your program. Then outline heavily all the differently shadowed areas where you would want the blackwork to shift to another design density. Then you will need to choose a lot of different blackwork patterns based on how heavily they cover the cloth.
