cross stitch over 2 squares

by judy
(australia)

I recently bought a booklet from the USA with gorgeous mammy designs, but most of them say to stitch over 2 squares, instead of the usual 1 as I have always done with aida. Would it matter if i did the design over the usual 1 design any help would be great.

many thanks judy Dyson

Does the pattern call for Aida or evenweave fabric, Judy? If it is evenweave that is often stitched over 2 fabric threads. On 28 count fabric the design would end up the same size as stitching over 1 Aida block.

If the pattern calls for Aida over 2 blocks, then the finished projects will be bigger, than if you stitch normally over 1.

You can find instructions for stitching over two on evenweave on the counted cross stitch page.

Carol
