correct kind of thread for redwork

by Beverly
(Ohio)

My friend and I are going to do our first Redwork project. Should we be using regular embroidery thread or purl cotton? Thanks! Beverly Johnston

Carol answers...

I would recommend you use stranded cotton or floss to work your redwork embroidery, Beverly. The number of strands would depend to some extent on the size of your picture. You could use all six strands for a large piece, but more commonly would use 2 or 3 strands at a time.

Pearl thread is indivisible so would tend to be too thick, unless you chose a number 8 or 12 pearl cotton.

I hope this helps,

Regards,

Carol
