Colored pencil markings on Aida cloth

I marked a 1" square on my aida cloth with a red marking pencil which was a mistake. Now how do I remove it? If I don't remove it, the whole picture is destroyed. Please help.

As long as your threads are washable, I would use a mild dish detergent. If it does not come out, could you stitch over it?
They make special pencils for temporary fabric markings, they are usually a light purple or blue and rinse away easily.
