Changing from 18 to 14 count fabric

by Joy

Can you change a pattern from 18 count to 14 without distorting image? I figure there will be some tiny gaps but is it possible?

I've just started to learn counted cross stitch by using my computer. I found an Inspiration pattern of a tiger that will be my pride and joy. The problem is it's on 18count. After reading around the internet and opening my pattern I've found that this isn't a beginner pattern and it has very small holes.

Thanks for any advice!

Thank you all for the quick response. And i'm so happy i can do this change especially since the cross stitch fabric is black. I'd never be able to see those tiny holes.
Happy Stitching!

You can change any chart and the design will not distort. It will either be a smaller or larger finished size. Divide the number of stitches on a side of the pattern by the count of the fabric to see how many inches your chart will come out on any given fabric.

changing fabric count
by: Trudy

You can change the fabric count, in this case, your finished project will be bigger. There will be no distortion or missing areas in your tiger :)

If you went from 14 count to 18 count, your finished project would be smaller.

Good luck, and happy stitching!
