Cable stitch

I am a beginner at the hardanger and am really struggling with the cable stitch

.It is very confusing to have the cable stitch go in the right direction,and where do I start on the fabric to get it in the right direction. Unfortunatly I am a very visual person so to read the directions is confusing.

I really would like to find some other ladies in my area to sit and stitch with. Could you offer some advice also where I may be able to find a web page or info on this also?
