Blackwork count

I am not totally sure that I understand your question, Margaret. Are you asking how many fabric threads to work over? Or how many stitching strands to use on 32 count linen?

It would be more usual to work over two fabric threads which would then be equivalent to a 16 count fabric. This would result in a slightly more delicate appearance to your work than if worked on 14 count fabric.

If you are working over two fabric threads then I would suggest using two strands of floss for the outlines, just so they stand out from the patterned areas which I would work with a single strand.

If you are working over a single fabric thread (!! ) then I would probably choose a fine silk instead of floss, to work with.
