Back of an embroidered apron

My daughter-in-law has been working on an apron for a niece who is a hairdresser. After finishing one of the designs the thread on the back seem loose. I was thinking that it might be a good idea to iron on something over these stitches to keep them from being pulled when worn or washed. I can't think of anything except perhaps an iron on fusible stabilizer or something similar. What would you suggest? Thank you in advance.
