Aida 14 count Vs 18 count

Hi,
I would like to know which count is the best result for my project. I bought a design and you can do either in 14, 18 or 22 count. I chose the 14 count one but after I stiched a few stitches I notice that the black thread doesn't cover all the white fabric. Should I buy the 18 count Aida?

Thanks

Aida 14 count Vs 18 count

The smaller the number of the fabric count, the more strands of floss needed to fully cover the fabric. It depends on how dense you want the color. You can stitch with as many strands as are comfortable. Do a few stitches with one strand, a few with two etc until you are pleased with the appearance.

The main thing is what are you okay with stitching on size-wise. The bigger the number of the fabric count, the smaller the stitches will be. Also, the different fabric counts will result in a different sized finished piece. Take the finished count of the design on the chart, divide those both of those two numbers by either 14 or 18 to find out how big it will be on that fabric.

14, 18, or 22 count?

If your thread doesn't cover the cloth as you would like, either use more ply, thicker thread, or a finer cloth.

22 count is much finer than 14 count, so this pattern would definitely need adjustment one way or the other. Perhaps the design was prepared on 18 count, but the designer thought that it would be fine on the 'next smaller' or 'next bigger' mesh. But nobody said that you MUST use 2 ply floss or whatever the pattern says.
