Stitchin'Time - summertime news
August 11, 2011

Welcome to the Summer edition of Stitchin'Time. I hope you are enjoying nice weather in your part of the world.

I have lots to share with you this time around. So lets start with some new additions to the site.

New Additions

In the next issue I will hopefully be able to introduce you to a new member of the family. My son and his wife are expecting a baby boy in September. He already has a name, Lucas Charles. I can't wait to meet him.

But for now, let's turn our attention to new additions to the site.

I have added a set of four celtic cross stitch designs to the site . The celtic elements are based on air, earth, water and fire and incorporate symbols that represent each element. The designs are 6 inches square, but do use fractional stitches so are maybe not ideal for beginners.

Rice stitch is an addition to our stitch library and I had fun stitching some examples for the page using different threads and fibres. It is a really easy stitch to add to your repertoire.

In the needlework forum I often get questions from people asking about embroidering names or lettering on garments, so I wrote a page giving some examples and stitches that can be used for this purpose. This page is already proving very popular.

You all continue to keep me busy with answering your questions on the forum pages. Wherever I can I try to reply directly underneath your question. For one recent question I had to consult an expert in conserving needlepoint lace in order to give a thorough answer to the question How to flatten and block antique needlepoint lace.

Please feel free to ask any needlework question that you may have. If you can, please give as much information as possible, as it does make for a more interesting question to answer than a one-liner.

Facebook page

I have started a Facebook page for the site.

Needlework Facebook page

It is in its very early days and I can't give it a short link until we get 25 likes on the page itself. Maybe you could help there? :)

I have also added Facebook Like buttons on all pages of the site, and am working through the 858 pages adding a commenting box at the bottom. As you can imagine this is a BIG job. Hopefully someone will comment on the page they have just read and make all the hard work worth while.

Doggy news

I know many of you like to hear about how the dogs are doing.

Poppy is her usual rambunctious self, getting into mischief whenever she can, and insisting that our garden should have holes dug in it. As Roger is trying to grow vegetables for the first time this year she is not too popular for doing this!

Skye has been through the wars a bit lately.

She had a bad ear infection in both ears and the vet had to clean them out under anaesthetic, poor girl. It turned out it was a yeast infection that is relatively uncommon in dogs. Luckily we have taken out pet insurance on both dogs so that kept the price of treatment down to a manageable amount. She was very good about me cleaning her ears every day, and even came up to me on one occasion and nudged the cleaning fluid bottle as if to tell me "come on Mum!".

We also had her neutered, as being a mixture (we used to call them mongrels but apparently the new term is designer dogs!) we are not intending to breed from her. The poor vet called us after the operation was over, to ask us to collect her as soon as possible, as he was sure that he had a 200lb gorilla trying to wreck his cage, not a medium sized dog!

Site Sponsorship

If you happen to supply the needlework world with products I would like to mention that we will soon be implementing a sponsorship program. This would give you the opportunity of getting your advert displayed to around 60,000 visitors a month!

Just drop me a line if you are interested In learning more about this opportunity.

Thank you for subscribing

Lastly I would like to thank everyone of you for signing up for my newsletter. Did you know we now have 3572 subscribers at the time of writing this newsletter? If you know anyone else that might like to receive it please feel free to forward this e-mail and ask them to sign up.

Regards,

Carol
